- Pick N Capture Review -

Finding the right color has never been lots of fun. What's especially frustrating is when you see the color you want but can't seem to quite get it on those color pickers without about an hour of experimentation. Worse yet, you finally find your color only to find that it's disgusting when matched with the text or background colors you've already chosen. Pick N Capture solves many of those problems. You may want to download the program and try it out as you read this.

Color Capture

The picture below is the entire window for Pick N Capture. The small size makes it ideal to use as an add on to your favorite web page creator, image editor or paint program such as the ones we offer in the boxes on the right.

To use the color capture feature, put your mouse in this PCPicker.JPG - 1997 Bytesarea of the Pick N Capture screen and "drag" the picker by moving the mouse with the left button held down. The area near the tip of the picker arrow will appear in a small preview window in the center of the Pick N Capture screen. The small slider next to the picker arrow will zoom that view in up to 11 times the original size allowing you to get the exact color you want.

Compare Box

When the picker arrow is active, the selected color will appear in the compare box based on the check boxes you choose.

Selecting "top" will place the color in the top half of the box, "Bottom" will place it in the bottom half of the screen, and "text" will change the color of the text in the box. To change the text itself, type anything you want in the text box under the "client" checkbox.

The value of the color will appear in the box above the three slider bars in Hex or RGB. You can change the output format by choosing either the Hex or RGB radio buttons above the three slider bars.

Screen Capture

The screen capture functions are fairly basic so check out Clip Mate if a sceen capture program is what you're after. The screen capture functions in Pick N Capture limit you to capturing the entire screen or what's in the preview window. To capture part or all of a screen:

1) Select either the "capture" or "client" checkbox beneath the compare box. Choosing capture will capture the entire screen while client will capture what is in the preview window.
2) Click on the "Save" button under the preview window. You can set the default save directory by clicking on the button next to the save checkbox.

If Pick N Capture is minimized, you can save the screen by left clicking on the icon in the system tray and selecting "Capture Entire Screen" from the pop up menu.

Conclusion and Registration

This program is a very usefull add on when writing web pages, editing digital images or working with a paint program. It doesn't take up much of the screen and at a registration price of $8.95 is a real bargain. You can also insert this in the tools section of many of the programs in the Creative Suite.

To register, just click on the "Register" button in the screen that pops up when the program starts.
